Hydrostatic Cylinder Pressure Testing

Have the cylinders in your workplace been tested?

All cylinders used in fire protection applications are legally required under the

European standard BSEN1968 (2002)* to be hydrostatically tested every ten years.

This means of testing is designed to prove the strength and integrity of a

pressurised vessel and ensure safety standards are maintained so cylinders remain safe,

in good working condition and overall suitable for use.

It the responsibility of the employer, owner or user to ensure that testing is adhered

to, failure to do so could lead to fines of up to £5,000 and in some cases two

years imprisonment.

How to identify if cylinders are ten years old?

Each cylinder has identification markings as per below**. You can check on the neck ring

for the year/month of manufacture to see when the cylinder test is due.
